Preparing for Thanksgiving Day travel

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - If you're planning on traveling on the busiest days around Thanksgiving, planes are expected to be close to 90 percent full.

It's expected that nearly 24 million travelers will fly around the end of November.

That's up slightly from a year ago but so are fares.

Sunday November 25th is projected to be the busiest travel day.

However, if you want to save, there is something you can do.

Denise Nowak says, “There are still a lot of great fares out there right now, low fares that are available.  However, you just have to be flexible in your dates.  In other words don't try to leave the day before Thanksgiving, but the morning of Thanksgiving loads of flights available. “

Airlines have had to cut back on the number of flights to match demand.

Because of that fares are up 4 percent and that increase is expected to continue.
