HOLYOKE, Mass. (WWLP) - It's been a strange and disappointing winter for people whose livelihood here in the Pioneer Valley depends on cold weather and snow on the ground.
Here at Competitive Edge ski shop in Holyoke, customers are more interested in buying bicycles than ski equipment.
Co-owner Jim Kennedy told 22News, the ski clothing that normally sells well during this time of year, just isn't selling because of this mild weather.
“The need's not there for warm clothing so that's had an impact on us. They're actually going on sale a little faster than we normally would just to capture some of the business during the season. ”
But as Kennedy put it, Greater Springfield may be only one snowstorm away from his business correcting itself.
So for now at least, skis aren't selling, but bicycles have done the kind of business they would normally generate in the spring.
