SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Paul Bagge, a man who was punched in the head after police say he tried to stop an argument, has died.
Bagge was taken to Baystate Medical Center with severe head trauma on Tuesday evening, after he was hit and fell to the ground.
According to Springfield Police Sergeant John Delaney, on Tuesday evening, Bagge was trying to end a dispute between Guy Wilson, 52, and woman. The two were arguing after the woman showed up to Wilson’s East Street home to pick up a dog that was advertised as found. Seeing Wilson and the woman struggle as he prevented her from getting her keys into her car’s ignition, Bagge tapped Wilson on the shoulder to get his attention. It was then that Delaney says Wilson punched Bagge in the face, knocking him down.
Keith O’Connor, spokesperson for Baystate Medical Center, told 22News that Bagge has passed away, but he could not disclose the time of his death due to HIPAA laws.
Wilson was arraigned Wednesday on charges of assault and battery causing serious bodily harm. Springfield Police Sergeant John Delaney told 22News that Wilson will now also be charged with murder. Bagge's death marks the 12th homicide in Springfield this year.
