SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - The tragic accident on Sumner Avenue has neighbors concerned about conditions that led to the young mother's death.

Lisandra Robles says she often crosses the four lanes on Sumner Avenue with her three children because there are so few crosswalks. “I have to be very careful sometimes I hold them because they're way too fast. ”

Drivers see two problems that contribute to the danger facing people who walk across Sumner Avenue.

“Cars speeding allot, and when people cross, they've got to cross the street not take their time. “

A crosswalk was convenient for this family who had been to the medical office at the X.

But others prefer to take their chances instead of walking several hundred yards to the nearest crosswalk.
