State Police barracks evacuated due to smell of natural gas

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - The Springfield Fire Department ordered the evacuation of the State Police barracks in Springfield because of an odor of natural gas Monday night.

A trooper smelled the gas a little after 8 O'Clock, and called the fire department.

Springfield aid to the commissioner Dennis Leger told 22News everyone was ordered out, and they opened all the windows and doors to get air moving through the building.

The low levels of gas were brought down to zero, and everyone was allowed back inside.

Columbia Gas workers arriived to try to find the source of the smell.
