Survey: Crime at all-time low

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Violent crime across the nation has dropped to the lowest level ever recorded.

The federal government's new crime survey shows that violent and property crime rates are at the lowest percentage since the survey was first published in 1973.

The study estimates that violent crime dropped just over 11% while property crime went down 5.5% percent between 2008 and 2009.

“I still think there's violence, but I feel safe. I don't feel like I can't walk down the street,” Crystal Tyndal of Springfield said.

The survey was based on interviews with more than 135,000 U.S. residents.
