(WWLP) - If you’re looking to save money on heating your home, gas may be a good alternative.
Natural gas could save you up to half the cost of heating your home compared to oil, with generally less maintenance required.
“The fuel comparison one to another is a lot less expensive per therm, or per measure of heat, and then, beyond that, with natural gas we’re able to get a lot more efficient; up to 98% efficient,” said Jerod Howell, a comfort advisor with Service Experts.
In comparison, heating with oil has an efficiency around 87% and comes with a need to get your chimney swept, and also your homeowners insurance may not cover your oil heating components.
There is a process involved to get natural gas heating installed in your home. First, contact your gas company to see if a line is available in your neighborhood. Then, contact a company to install the natural gas heater in your home. The whole process can take up to a month, but act now. Many natural gas companies will not be able to hook up your home to gas when the ground freezes, because that makes digging new lines difficult.
