CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) - State Police Sgt. Brian Gladu told 22News a witness says the car that crashed into a guardrail at around 7:45PM Monday on I-91 South in Chicopee was drag racing.

Sgt. Gladu says the exact cause of the crash is still being investigated but that, "speed definitely was a factor."

The crash seriously injured four people, all adults, at least two of them male. They were all taken to Baystate Medical Center. They're names are not being released.

The crash occurred between exits 12 and 11 before the 391 merge. It closed a stretch of the highway for hours and backed up traffic for miles.

Sgt. Gladu told 22News he expects charges to be filed.
