Volunteers dedicate time for Disabled Veterans Day

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. (WWLP) - Disabled American Veterans Day is an annual event held on the first Sunday in December.

There was a solemn service at the VA medical center chapel in the Leeds section of Northampton.

James Bouchard of Granby, volunteers for the disabled American Veterans Organization. He tries to cheer them up and boost their morale. “We were able to sit down and talk with some veterans. They were able to share their life stories about their families their involvement in the military some of them are lonely and it's good to be able to help them. “

Daniel Stack of the Massachusetts DAV told 22News volunteers are the lifeblood of helping aging veterans at the V.A medical center and the Holyoke Soldiers Home.

He said things are looking up; more people want to help disabled veterans.

DAV day has been described as one of the most important commemorative events of the year for disabled American veterans, and all veterans who are hospitalized.

This chapel service was followed by a holiday gathering to recognize their service and sacrifices.
