SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Dozens of volunteers gathered at Northampton's college church on a mission that will effect thousands of children.

The volunteers help "Operation Christmas Child" .

They spent the day filling thousands of shoe boxes containing gifts for children all over the world.

Louise Brown is the Western Massachusetts coordinator. “We put hygiene items, school supplies and a toy maybe, a little candy then they go out around the world to over 100 countries. That goes with a gospel message in 70 different languages. “

The volunteers package the gift boxes before Thanksgiving to make certain the children in 100 countries receive their gifts in time for Christmas.
