SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Two organizations stepped in to help a homeowner who couldn't pay for the repairs they needed.
Marcella Haynes lived in her home for 20 years.
The city code enforcement officer cited her in March because of the condition of her home's exterior.
So, volunteers from Rebuilding Together and Blue Cross Blue Shield came to Monmouth Street to complete the repairs.
They did everything from painting to yard work to taking out gutters.
Haynes was unable to get a loan or funding for renovations because she's been out of work.
Haynes was happy to see the final product.
"Just to know that there are people out there that want to help us maintain our home and give us a helping hand," Haynes said.
"It's just a joy from us to see the transformation that we can make on her behalf," said Amy Cohen, a Blue Cross Blue Shield volunteer.
Rebuilding Together Springfield completed 71 homes last year.
