CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) - Residents throughout western Massachusetts woke up to downed trees and power outages Thursday morning, after a strong rain storm.
Verber Ealum Jr. was one of the many residents affected by this strange bout of weather. High wind gusts and heavy rain sent a massive tree limb down on his Western Avenue property in Chicopee.
"It sounded like a car dropped out of the sky, and it just ba-ba-ba-BOOM!", said Ealum.
A portion of the tree ended up damaging his wife's car and brought down wires; leaving the Ealums in the dark.
The couple immediately called Chicopee Electric Light. Ealum told 22News that they came to his house within 40 minutes.
Several hours later, a tree crew responded trying to clean-up what was left of the debris.
Verber said, what shocked him the most, is this recent spell of warm weather we've been experiencing in the dead of winter.
"It's abnormal, the climates are changing drastically. It's just really odd; it's unexplainable," he said.
