AAA: Newer cars need less oil changes

CHICOPEE, Ma (WWLP) - Old habits die hard with a lot of drivers. Take changing your oil for example. The AAA auto club has questioned the wisdom of changing your car's oil every 3 thousand miles.

In a statement released through AAA offices in Springfield and West Springfield, the AAA suggested that drivers of newer cars are wasting money by religiously changing their oil every 3 thousand dollars.

Drivers of newer cars according to the AAA, should let 5 to 7 thousand miles go by before changing their oil.

Jennifer Mitchell of Springfield told 22News she agrees with the AAA, “I think it's ridiculous. Like why do I have to go every 3 thousand miles, I'm fine with 5 thousand miles, I'm fine at 7 thousand miles, It's not like I have to do it at 3 thousand miles.”

The AAA claims we're also doing the environment a favor when we when we change our oil less frequently.
