Agawam seniors snowed in

AGAWAM, Mass. (WWLP) - The elderly at Agawam's Colonial Haven apartments said the lack of plowing there since the storm had isolated the men and women with serious medical problems.

It wasn't until Sunday afternoon that the housing authority workers started clearing a path for the residents.

Donna Drake told 22News, she felt trapped by the snow and would be vulnerable in the event of an emergency, I've had open heart surgery, and there was no way an ambulance and fire truck would get in here, no way.”

Maureen Keyer of the Agawam Housing Authority told 22News, “As soon as we were allowed back after the governor's declaration of essential personnel only we came back as quickly as we could to all but three properties in a short amount of time, we're here now.”

Residents told 22News that they became so frustrated they started clearing the snow themselves.

That was before housing authority workers began their snow clearing operation.
