CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) - An alleged drunk driver was arrested after running away from an accident and trying to grab a police officer's gun.
According to Sgt. Roy Landry from the Chicopee Police Department , a car driven by 28-year old Matthew Locke from Chester, Connecticut, rammed into the back of a mini van in front of the Hess Station on Memorial Drive around 2:00 this morning, flipped over several times, and landed in front of Ocean State Job Lot.
Sgt. Landry said Locke ran from the accident, but was found in the Knights of Columbus parking lot after police tracked his cell phone. When the officer approached him, Locke allegedly reached for the officer's gun. He is facing several charges including assault with intent to murder.
The officer was treated for a wrist injury. A passenger in the mini van that was hit was taken to the hospital with injuries, but is expected to be OK.
