CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) - If you have a frozen turkey this Thanksgiving, it's almost time to start thinking about defrosting it.
Experts recommend defrosting it in the refrigerator and giving it one day per four or five pounds. So, if you have a 20-pound turkey, you may want to put in the fridge this Sunday or Monday.
Some people say this is always the start of their Thanksgiving traditions.
“We defrost the day or two before, and then my husband prepares the turkey, and I prepare the rest, the stuffing and the mashed potatoes,” Suzanne Standire of Chicopee said.
When cooking the turkey, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends the oven temperature be no lower than 325 degrees - and the food thermometer register around 165 degrees.
