Apps help to recover stolen phones

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - If you find yourself victim to a cell phone thief, there are ways you can protect yourself and your property.

You can download apps to help locate a stolen or missing phone.

There's also a new app for Android phones that can snap a picture of the phone's surroundings, whoever or whatever may be in front of the lens.

These are just some precautions people are taking in case their phone turns up missing.

Student Jennifer Canniff told 22News, “I know I have some personal apps on there too that have to do with credit cards and stuff like that that I actually wanted to delete so I've gotten rid of those too just in case.”

One research firm says 20 percent of us will lose our phones at some point.
