(WWLP) - There is a new controversy surrounding seven-time Tour de France winner, Lance Armstrong .

The well-known cyclist is now banned from participating in Ironman competitions . This follows n ew doping allegations from the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency .

Although his reputation overseas has been damaged by the accusations, he remains a favorite in the U.S., including here in western Massachusetts.

“He's raised a lot of money for people, so he's a good guy,” Bernard Thomas of Springfield said.

“I think Lance has done some really great things. I think he stands for great things, and I think that's something we can't forget,” John Rafferty of Leeds said.

Armstrong must respond, in writing, to the allegations by June 22.
