SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - The suspect in the Springfield's ninth murder of the year has been ordered held without right to bail.
Edwin Santiago, 28, of Springfield has been charged with killing Sadeeq Khalid Allah, 38, of Springfield, who was found stabbed behind a Jefferson Avenue duplex Tuesday morning. He was taken to the hospital where he died within about half an hour.
Hours later, Santiago brought himself to Baystate Medical Center with a head injury. That's where he was arrested.
Springfield Police Sgt. John Delaney told 22News that the killing may be drug related.
22News tried contacting the Detective Bureau overnight on Wednesday to ask them why they think this was drug related, but nobody was available.
Santiago is scheduled to be in court again on November 20.
