Arraignment in alleged hit & run that injured Springfield police officer

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - The Springfield police officer who was hit by a pickup truck Monday morning is out of the hospital, and the man who allegedly hit him is going to court.

24 year old Siloe Perez will walk into a courtroom on Tuesday facing a variety of charges. They include drunk driving, leaving the scene of an accident, and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon. (with the weapon being the vehicle.)

Perez was allegedly intoxicated when hit the officer, who was directing traffic around a construction site near Orange and Ranney Streets.

Perez didn't stop after he hit the officer, but officers were able to catch up with him about a mile down the road and arrested him on Sumner Avenue.

The officer was taken to the hospital for an injury to his knee and is out of the hospital and recovering. 22News called the Springfield Police overnight, but his name is still not available.

Working a construction detail is pretty routine for police officers, but it's also dangerous. In July, veteran Westfield Police Officer Jose Torres was killed when he was hit by a dump truck.
