SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - A second man has been arrested in connection with the August 11 murder of a Springfield man whose wife says he was an innocent bystander.
Emanuel Santana, 25, of Chicopee, was arrested by members of the Springfield Police Warrant Apprehension Unit at a Beacon Circle apartment Tuesday morning.
Springfield Police Sgt. John Delaney told 22News that Santana is charged with murder, possession of a firearm, and discharging a firearm in the killing of 38 year-old Antonio Gonzalez.
Gonzalez was shot in the chest on Bay Street during early morning hours of August 11. Gonzalez’ wife told 22News that her husband was trying to intervene in a fight in the street, when he was shot. Gonzalez was taken to Baystate Medical Center, where he died.
Shortly after the murder, 16 year-old Joshua Pena was arrested . He was transferred from juvenile to adult court for the murder case.
Santana is the second person to be charged in connection with Gonzalez’s killing, and Delaney says that more arrests are possible as the investigation continues.
