SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Three people have been shot on a beach behind the Knights of Columbus on Page Boulevard in Springfield's Indian Orchard section, and a shooter is still on the loose.

The K of C is at the end of a dirt road, off of 2071 Page Boulevard, leading into the Lake Lorraine Conservation Area.

This all began at 12:40, Friday morning.

Captain Cheryl Claprood told 22News, a police officer was responding to the area and was flagged down by a naked man who told him people had been shot on the beach.

They found two victims. A 23 year old man and a 17 year old girl. They were taken to Baystate Medical Center, their names and conditions are not being released.

The third victim, a man, age unknown, was found about a half hour later by state police nearby with a gunshot wound to the leg.

Police say he may have ran through the woods to get away from the shooter.

No word on the condition of any of the victims, but Captain Claprood said they all live in the North End of the city.

Captain Claprood says that during the early morning hours, they blocked off the area and are focusing their search for the gunman in the woods behind the Knights of Columbus. The suspect was not found, however.

Police found 40-caliber shell casings on the beach.
