Attendees search for deals as Big E ends

WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - New England's Great State Fair is wrapping up.

Sunday is the final day, but how did the fair fare this year?

Almost everything at the Big E will cost you. Still, the fair surpassed the attendance record of more than 1.2 million people on Saturday.

While there may have been more people than ever, it doesn't mean they have more cash than ever.

“I grabbed a certain amount of cash this morning and that's it, once that's done, we're done,” CJ Snelling told 22News.

Rick Brown has been selling his crafts at the Big E for 9 years and this year's sales were similar to the past few years.

“People are still cautious with their money, the economy's still off, a lot of people are hurting but I mean they come to the fair they want to have fun they want to have a good time, that's what it's all about,” Brown said.

And some people wait until the very last day to come to the fair so they can find any last minute bargains from vendors who are trying to get rid of their inventory before the Big E ends.

Brown said, “Some vendors do because this is their last show and you can find some incredible bargains some days.”

“See how it's changed, see if there's any good deals on the last day. We've seen signs for 50% off,” Cindy Zimmerman said.

But more than anything the pleasant weather throughout the Big E's 17 day run helped the fair break the attendance record on 6 days.
