SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - An investigation is underway into a baby's death in Springfield's North End.

Hampden County District Attorney Mark Mastroianni told 22News the investigation began 7-10 days ago after the baby had been brought to Baystate Medical Center.

Mastroianni would not discuss the specifics of the case including the address, date that the baby died, or the baby's gender. However Mastroianni explained that there is specialized testing that has to be done in a case like this, that takes longer than a typical autopsy.

22News is continuing to look into the details of this story and will provide updates as we uncover more information.
