Barely visible crosswalks posing a risk to pedestrians, drivers

WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - The Town of West Springfield will soon be repainting its crosswalks, and if you ask people in the community, they’ll tell you that they need it.

One sidewalk on busy Memorial Avenue is hardly visible to drivers. People who use it to cross on a daily basis say that it's downright scary.

“I think it's extremely dangerous, it's faded, you really can't see anything and no one stops,” said Laura Gonzales of Feeding Hills, pointing to another man who was trying to cross the street at the same time she was. “Like when me and that young man were crossing, no one bothered to stop. We were poking our heads to the side and no one slows down.”

West Springfield's Director of Public Works says that they will start repainting in about a month, starting first with major roads like Memorial Avenue.
