BANGOR, Maine (WWLP) - Two F-15 jets from Barnes Air National Guard Base in Westfield were scrambled following an incident on a trans-Atlantic flight diverted to Maine after a woman on-board was reportedly acting strangely.
NORAD spokesperson John Cornelio told 22News that two of the F-15’s from the 104 th Fighter Wing were scrambled at 9:40 A.M. Mountain Daylight Time (11:40 Eastern Standard Time) in response to an incident on a U.S. Airways flight from Paris to Charlotte, North Carolina. The plane was diverted and landed safety at Bangor International Airport.
The Associated Press reports that a woman aboard the plane, a Cameroon-born French citizen, seemed mentally unstable and announced that she had a surgically-implanted device. She is now in custody.
According to U.S. Airways spokesperson Andrew Christie, Flight 767 had 179 passengers and nine crew members aboard.
The flight landed in Maine at around noon time, and was cleared for continue on around 2:00 P.M.
