HOLYOKE, Mass. (WWLP) - Barnes and Noble is telling its customers to check their bank statements, after the retailer revealed their credit and debit card PIN pads were tampered with.
The bookseller says some of the personal identification numbers customers enter when they pay, have been stolen.
63 stores in nine states have been affected by this hacking situation, including: Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Florida, Illinois, and California.
None of the affected stores are in western Massachusetts, with the closest store to the area being in West Hartford, Connecticut.

Right now, Barnes and Noble is warning customers to check for any unauthorized transactions, and to change their PIN number.
The company found out about this hacking situation on September 14th, and has since disconnected all of its PIN pads in all of its stores nationwide. According to the New York Times, Barnes and Noble kept quiet about the problem so the FBI could investigate.
