INDIAN ORCHARD, Mass. (WWLP) - A small spill of battery acid at Solutia’s Indian Orchard plant was contained Tuesday morning, Springfield fire officials say.

Dennis Leger, Aide to the Springfield Fire Commissioner, told 22News that some battery acid leaked out of a barrel at the Worcester Street facility Tuesday. He says the fire department was called in, but workers at the plant were able to contain the spill themselves.

Leger said that there were no evacuations, and that none of the acid was released into the atmosphere.
