Baystate offers heart health education

HOLYOKE, Mass. (WWLP) - For the past four Sundays Springfield area men and women concerned about keeping their hearts healthy have been listening to doctors at Baystate medical center's education center in Holyoke.

For most of the people attending the last of the lectures this Sunday, they had attended all or most of the previous sessions listening to the doctors prescribe a regimen for healthy living.

The doctors may have used such medical terms such as transcatheter aortic valve replacement, but to the folks who want healthy hearts, the medical men were speaking their language.

“Well some of the things you're not supposed to do, in other words you’re eating habits, it's all things pertaining to good health,” One attendee said.

“It's really awesome, life changing.  Everything to do with the heart, how to eat and things to stay away from, how to stay healthy, stay active,” Cynthia Barnett told 22News.

“I think it's very informative, hopefully I won't have to need much of this, it's good to have it stashed away,” Judy Warshaw said.

Others told 22News it was the best free medical advice they ever received.  They hope to use what they've learned during the past month in good health.
