Beer and wine at Friendly's?

Chicopee restaurant applying for license

CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) - Friendly's has applied for a beer and wine license at its Chicopee restaurant on Memorial Drive.

Chicopee License commission chairman Donald Gaulete confirmed that Friendy's has applied for a permit to sell, beer, wine, cordials, and liquor.

Some customers at the Chicopee restaurant told 22News that they don't like the idea. "Friendly's is a family restaurant, and there are a lot of other restaurants that serve beer and wine,” Chicopee mother of three Ruth Nawocki said.

"Honestly, I don't believe it should happen because Friendly's is known for being a family-style restaurant and beer and wine don't hold any place in that kind of atmosphere,” Chicopee parent Steve Kinsley said.

If the Chicopee License Commission approves the beer and wine permit, the request will come under further scrutiny from the Massachusetts Alcohol Beverage Control Commission.
