Birthday party for boy with cancer

HOLYOKE, Mass. (WWLP) - A very special birthday party in Holyoke Satuday afternoon for a little boy with cancer.

Little Giovanni Lopez celebrated his fourth birthday under a cloud called cancer. His Mom, Mayra held the party at Our Lady of Guadeloupe Church to rally support behind efforts to battle childhood cancer.

Some of the parents who came to the fund raising party also know the pain of seeing  their children fight cancer.

Mary Colon, a parent from Holyoke told 22News, “I had a daughter who had pleuropulmonary blastoma, a very rare cancer. We're here to make public awareness and help children that do have cancer.”               

Mayra Lopez, Giovanni’s mother said, “In November of 2011 he got diagnosed with neuroblastoma, stage four cancer, which is a childhood cancer that attacks a lot of boys.”

Mayra Lopez told 22News, all the money raised at her son's birthday party will be donated to Baystate Children's Hospital in Springfield to fight childhood cancer.
