SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Hurricane Sandy impacted blood supply levels across the Northeast.

More than 200 Red Cross blood drives had to be cancelled because of superstorm Sandy, equating to a loss of more than 7,000 blood donations.

Now that the storm has passed, the Red Cross is looking for eligible donors to give blood as soon as possible. They can use all blood types, but are especially looking for:

  • Type-O positive
  • Type-O negaitve
  • Type-A negative
  • Type-B negative

In order to donate, you must be:

  • At least 17 years-old
  • Meet height and weight requirements
  • Generally be in good health

All those interested in donating must bring a valid form of I.D. with them--like a driver's license. If you've donated before, make sure to bring your Red Cross blood donor card.
