SOUTHWICK, Mass. (WWLP) - There was some beautiful weekend weather in the forecast, and if you plan on enjoying our refreshing western Massachusetts waterways, 22News is working for you with some advice to make sure you stay safe.

Officer Kenneth Laxton of the Southwick Police Department offers these boating safety tips:

  • Everybody should have a life jacket on.

  • Make sure you have signaling devices and paddles aboard your craft.

  • Make sure you stay within the parameters of the lake which are clearly posted at all launch areas.

  • Each craft that has a skier or tuber must have a spotter, and they cannot be under the age of 12.

  • Do not exceed 45 miles per hour
