Brass knuckles suspect held without bail

(wwlp) SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - A Springfield District Court Judge ordered brass knuckles assault suspect Elvin Bastaldo of Springfield held without the right to bail pending a dangerousness hearing next week.

Springfield Police arrested Elvin Bastaldo and his brother Juan following an incident outside the Mardi Gras strip club early Sunday morning.

Elvin Bastaldo is accused of assaulting an unidentified doorman/bouncer who had to be air-lifted to Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston after Springfield Police Sgt john Delaney said he was repeatedly punched in the eye by a man wearing brass knuckles.

Springfield Police Officer Charles Youmans told 22News Tuesday that the victim "might lose the sight in his injured eye."

A Springfield District Court clerk told 22News that Elvin Bastaldo was arraigned Tuesday on charges of aggravated assault and battery, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and mayhem.  Bastaldo was ordered held without the right to bail pending a dangerousness hearing scheduled for September 7th.

Juan Bastaldo was charged with assault and battery, resisting arrest, and being a disorderly person.
