Budget cuts soon to be felt across Mass.

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - The world hasn't stopped spinning, but the billions in across the board spending cuts will soon begin to be felt.

It was supposed to be the last resort, but now 85 billion dollars will be slashed from the budget.

Its estimated Massachusetts will lose 60,000 jobs, more than half in defense.

Leaving military members and their families concerned.

“They kind of warn him that he's in training right now and there's a possibility they could just send him home and not finish his training until another time or until it gets straightened out,” Allen Gaj said.

There's still a lot of uncertainty though, Governor Deval Patrick's office has said they're still waiting for information from the Federal Office of Management and Budget.

Even though these cuts are across the board, each state won't be affected equally.  According to the Pew Center Massachusetts has nearly 5% of GDP from federal spending. It's not a huge percentage, but enough to make an impact.

Its estimated Massachusetts will lose more than 6 million dollars in Head Start funding, a hit for parents and educators.

Lynn Logsdon said, “Very concerned, I'm a teacher so it affects education and my husband is a firefighter so it affects him and he's a firefighter at Barnes so it absolutely affects us.”

Homeland security, food safety, health care, transportation, national parks, federal workers, unemployment benefits and the list goes on.

The President said not everyone will feel the pain of these cuts right away; the pain though will be real.

"This is not going to be a, uh, apocalypse, I think as some people have said. It’s just dumb and it's going to hurt,” said President Obama.
