SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Someone fired several bullets into the Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Center in Springfield's Mason Square neighborhood Monday night.

According to Officer Charles Youmans, police recovered seven bullets from the MLK Center, and one of the building's windows was hit.

Youmans told 22News that the city's "shot spotter" system was activated at 873 State Street, just before 10 o'clock Monday night. The MLK Center is on a nearby street.

Youmans said no one was in the building at the time of the shooting.

Police at this point are still investigating, and don't know what may have motivated the shooting.
