California's gas prices have WMass worried

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Pain at the pump for drivers in California, who are more than five dollars a gallon for gas in some locations.

A gas price drivers told 22News they hope they never have to see.

Danielle Bailey, a driver from Seymour, Conn., said that her biggest concern about gas is “that it's going to be six dollars like it is in California.”

“Gasoline is a necessity of life,” said Shannon Porter of Northampton. “You have to go to work. You need to feed you family. You need to shop. It is a big expense.”

For some states, a big expense is right.

According to AAA's Daily Fuel Gauge Report, the five states with the highest average gas prices are:

• California: $4.65
• Hawaii: $4.41
• Alaska: $4.16
• Conneticut: $4.13
• New York: $4.12

Here in Massachusetts the average price of gas is $3.92, although it’s not clear how much higher gas prices will go up.

But drivers say they're taking precaution just incase.                     

Randy Michon of Chicopee told 22News, “I encourage people to prepare because we are in for some financially hard times. We have oil prices coming in for the winter. In New England we know the prices are going to rise.”

James Jasmine of Springfield concurred, “I encourage people out there better put in stock because hard times are coming. You haven't seen anything yet.”
