CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) - Some people in western Massachusetts woke up early Tuesday morning feeling the earth shake a little bit.

According to the U.S. Geological Survey, a 3.7 magnitude earthquake happened just after 4:00 A.M., centered just southwest of Hawkesbury, Ontario, which is located on near the Quebec provincial line.

The USGS reports that people in Upstate New York and Vermont also felt the quake, and 22News received several Report It submissions about tremors happening as late as 7:00 A.M.

At 3.7 in magnitude, the earthquake was less intense than the Maine earthquake felt in mid-October, and much less intense than the 5.8 magnitude quake centered in Virginia in 2011.
