SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Firefighters had to use a pole to support part of a building that houses a Springfield nonprofit organization, after a car crashed through its porch Friday morning.
Dennis Leger, aide to the Springfield Fire Commissioner told 22News that a Nissan Altima and another vehicle were involved in a crash on Wilbraham Road just before 8:00 A.M. The Nissan sedan ended up crashing through the front porch of Springfield Neighborhood Housing Services.
Leger says firefighters arrived at the building in just two minutes, but that the woman driving the Nissan had already gotten out of the car, and was taken to the hospital by ambulance. Her condition is not known at this time,
Because of the way the car crashed, the vehicle was actually supporting the weight of the porch and part of the roof. Firefighters had to use a pole to support the building, as the car was removed by tow truck.
Springfield Neighborhood Housing Services is a nonprofit organization that helps families with home ownership and property improvement.
