Cause of fire at elderly housing complex determined

WESTFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - We now know the cause of fire in Westfield that temporarily displaced 134 people from an elderly housing complex.

State Fire Marshal Stephen Coan said the fire at 16 Washington Street started when a Monday night when the burner on an electric stove was unintentionally left on.

The burner caused other materials to catch on fire and spread.

The fire caused an estimated $750,000 in damages.
