CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) - The populations of Springfield, Holyoke, Chicopee, and Westfield have grown by small amounts in the last 10 years, while Northampton, Greenfield, and Pittsfield all lost residents over the last decade, according to new 2010 U.S. Census numbers released Tuesday afternoon by the office of the Secretary of the Commonwealth, William F. Galvin.

The numbers were released hours after incorrect numbers had been made public. The incorrect numbers had misstated some statistics, such as reporting that Springfield’s population had dipped below 150,000 and that Boston had lost people.

According to the corrected figures, which are posted on the Secretary of the Commonwealth’s website, Springfield’s population has risen by 0.64%; from 152,082 to 153,060. Chicopee, the region’s second-largest city, has seen its population rise by 1.18%; from 54,653 in 2000 to 55,298 today. Pittsfield’s, the third-most populous city in Western Massachusetts, saw its population fall from 45,793 to 44,737; a 2.31% decline. Westfield grew by 2.55% from 40,072 to 41,094, and Holyoke, the fifth-largest city in the region, added 0.97%, going from 39,838 people in 2000 to 39,880 people in 2010.
