EMPORIA, Va. (WWLP) - The mother involved in the amber alert of her own child in October was in a Virginia Court room Thursday. Virginia assistant Commonwealth Attorney Meghan Campbell told 22News Cheryl Kozaczek of Westfield will stay in a Virginia Jail for 60 more days or until a Massachusetts state employee picks her up, then she'll be released.
Kozaczek was sentenced to 12 months in jail on the misdemeanor charge of contributing to the delinquency of a minor. Two felony charges, receiving stolen goods (a truck she drove) and child endangerment were dropped. 11 months of Kozaczeks' sentence was suspended and she already spent the other month in jail. She'll be on probation for three years on the condition of good behavior and she'll have to pay court costs.
Her child, 3 month old Grabria Kozaczek was placed in foster care in early November. Cayenne Isaksen with the Department of Children and Families told 22News she remains in foster care.
Her mother, 28 year old Cheryl Kozaczek of Westfield is in a Virginia jail. A preliminary and extradition hearing has been scheduled in a Virginia Court on November 29th. No bail was set for Kozaczek, according to the Greensville County Commonwealth Attorney's office in Virginia.
