Charter school science fair held

Hampden charter school 3rd Annual Science Fair

CHICOPEE, Mass, (WWLP) - The Hampden Charter School of science held it’s 3rd annual science fair where students are required to prepare science projects that involve creative thinking and problem solving.

Over 170 projects were displayed in five of the following categories on Saturday: environmental sciences, life sciences, physical sciences, earth sciences, technology and engineering and psychology.

HCSS currently serves 295 students in grades 6th through 12th grade in Chicopee, Ludlow, Springfield and West Springfield.

The charter school says it's mission is to prepare students for college through a curriculum designed based on a scientific approach and focus on Math and Science.

However, the school is anything but traditional.Student to teacher ratio is 9-1, a typical school day starts at 8AM and ends at 4PM and there are even classes on Saturday.

The school is currently accepting 50 applications for the 6th grade.
