Chickens attracting fox to neighborhood, Westfield animal control officer says

Three children attacked by possibly sick fox

WESTFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Three small children were attacked and bitten by a potentially rabid fox in Westfield Monday night.

The children, aged 2,6, and 7 were all playing outside when the fox approached them and bit through their pants, causing minor scrapes to their legs. All are being treated for rabies as a precaution.

Animal Control Officer Ken Frazier told 22News that the fox most likely has rabies and mange, which makes the animal look sick. Frazier said it is attracted to the Eastwood Acres neighborhood because one of the residents has chickens in their backyard.

Frazier said people should keep a close eye on children or keep them inside for the next several days.
