CHISOPEE, Mass. (wwlp) - A treacherous rescue for Chicopee fire fighters who helped a man who fell about  twenty feet.

Chicopee Fire Captain Matthew Cross told 22News the unidentified man fell from a retaining wall behind a Front Street factory building at about 7:30 Saturday night.

The man fell onto some rocks, and complained of leg and back pain.  The rocks were almost directly beneath Interstate 391.

Captain Cross said six firefighters carried the victim about 200 yards up a steep rocky embankment to a waiting ambulance.

Rescue workers had stabilized him with a neck brace and back board.

Captain Cross said he didn't know what the man was doing on top of the retaining wall.
