CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) - More than a dozen people who lost their home in a fire now have a new roof over their heads.
Their six-family home on Nassau Street in Chicopee’s Willimansett neighborhood burned down on Monday afternoon.
The landlord has found other apartments for the 14 people, including five children, who used to live in the house.
The fire also came dangerously close to two adjoining apartment buildings housing dozens of people on Grattan Street, according to apartment house manager Robert Morris.
“I'll tell you one thing. It could have been our buildings, because the wind was very windy yesterday, and the flames were pretty intense. We could see the smoke coming right up over the building that it was ours,” Morris said.
Firefighters spent much of the night on Nassau Street putting out flare ups.
