SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Students at Square One in Springfield received a special gift on Tuesday. The Chicopee Savings Bank Foundation has donated $50,000 over five years for scholarships.
Many of the children at the center come from low income homes. Square One provides quality educational programs to prepare them for school.
Square One President and CEO Joan Kagan says that the funding will go far to help them in their mission. "This money will help us provide scholarships to those children, and help them get off to a good start in life and a successful career in their education,” she said.
Chicopee Savings Bank President William J. Wagner says that helping organizations like Square One is what their foundation does.
"One of the really, priorities, for the foundation is to support disadvantaged youth in their efforts to get a good education,” Wagner said.
Square One is thankful for the support. Their building was destroyed in the June 1 tornado, and now they are looking to rebuild in downtown Springfield.
