CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) - After 44 years as Chicopee's Treasurer, Ernie Laflamme announced his retirement Tuesday.

About 150 Chicopee residents, city officials and family members gathered at the Castle of the Knights for his announcement.

Ernie was first elected as Treasurer in 1970.

He was re-elected 11 times.

Ernie told 22News he's leaving City Hall with a lot of great memories, “I love being with the people that work in City Hall. I loved working with my staff. And it's been just a pleasure to work, so I'm going to miss it very much.”

He said he plans on spending more time with his 13 children and his grandchildren.
