SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Saying that the costs of upkeep proved to be just too much, leaders of the Holy Communion of Churches are moving their headquarters out of Springfield and down to Maryland.

Archbishop Timothy Paul of the Holy Communion of Churches told 22News that on Thursday, they will be auctioning off their headquarters; the Basilica of the Holy Apostles on State Street. Built in 1923, the building is a former Masonic Temple, which is listed in the National Register of Historic Places.

Archbishop Paul told 22News that among other expenses, the cost of heating the massive building is astronomical. He said that they have been given the “sad choice” of keeping up the building, or investing money to build a religious academy.

Paul told 22News the Holy Communion of Churches will now operate out of a basilica in Maryland, on the outskirts of Washington, D.C. The Holy Communion of Churches has 500 members and nine churches.
