WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - The cleanup continued Thursday night, more than 24-hours after the storm that dropped anywhere from three inches to a foot of snow on parts of western Massachusetts.

Several home-owners use a snow blower to clear the heavy wet snow from their walk and driveways.  The texture of the Wednesday night snow isn't ideal for mechanized snow-removal, which is why Dana Vient went "low-tech," enlisting the help of two strong young men to clear his driveway using shovels.

Vient told 22News he knows from experience how important it is to clear the slush before the temperatures drop.

"Well, ya! If all this freezes up, I've got three, four inches of block ice in my driveway for a couple of days," Vient said.

22News is working for you with a reminder that the snow on the ground is heavy, and you can save yourself some pain by taking smaller shovelfuls, using your knees instead of your back to lift or, better yet, hire someone else to take care of the heavy work.
